  Lucifer
Lucifer is derived from the latin term lucem ferre, which means "bringer, or bearer, of light." In Roman mythology, Lucifer was a deity equivalent to the Greek Phosporus, and the planet Venus was known by the name Lucifer in Roman astrology before being given its current name.
Lucifer is mentioned in only one place in the Bible (Isaiah 14:12), in translations based on the Latin translation largely made by St. Jerome in the fourth century.

Lucifer laments that it took him ten years to construct that bomb, and that now with its destruction, he and Xavier have evened the score between them.
Xavier allows Lucifer to be free, however, saying "we X-Men are pledged never to cause injury to a human being- no matter what the provocation!" It is enough, he says, that they know he has been defeated and that he will never escape their justice should he return to evil.

The Marvel Battlestar Galactica Comics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The Marvel Comics Battlestar Galactica comic book series lasted 23 issues from 1979 to 1981 and is widely regarded as a major dissapointment (although it came nowhere close to reaching the horrible depths of Galactica 1980).
Despite this problem, the Marvel series had great potential because comics were better equipped for science fiction stories than television was back in 1978 (unlike today when relatively inexpensive CGI special effects allow television to do sci-fi/fantasy series such as Bablyon 5, Xena, and Hercules that wouldn't have been possible even 10 years earlier).
What's frustrating is that Marvel does things that the television series should have done -- the compelling Sire Uri sticks around and is the perfect foil for Adama -- Boomer, Athena, and Jolly are each featured in their own individual stories -- yet it fails to do them in a compelling fashion.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News: Hell Frozen Over: Mike Carey talks about “Lucifer’s” final year
The layered subtext in "Lucifer" has been one of the main reasons for the critical acclaim the series has received, and Carey says that while he isn't going to be on his soapbox come issue #75, he does feel there's something extra that curious fans can garner from reading the series.
Despite his previous exclusive contract with DC Comics, fans haven't seen Carey really get to work on any of the big superheroes, with his proposed "Firestorm" reboot scuttled and his "Superman" arc not on the schedule, but fans have seen Carey at Marvel Comics.
But for me, the superhero genre is essentially something that comics have made their own: one of the few genres that always works better in comics than any other medium, and so I like superhero stories when they're done well.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News: In Depth With Mike Carey: Marvel, Vertigo & More
Professionally, beginning with his work on DC Comics/Vertigo's "Lucifer" series, and his more recent efforts on "My Faith In Frankie" and the Marvel Comics series "Ultimate Fantastic Four," Carey is scoring homeruns with fans and critics.
I think of superhero comics as a genre that is done better in comics than anywhere else: it's a genre that was cultivated first in comics.
I think both "Constantine" and "Fantastic Four" did a good job of that, though many people who loved the comic didn't like the movie in the U.K, because there were things that were essential to their experience of the comic that they felt were not properly represented in the movie.
