Lucille Bremer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lucille Bremer (born February 21, 1917 in Amsterdam, New York; died April 16, 1996 in La Jolla, California) was an American film actress and dancer.
Bremer was born in Amsterdam, New York and began her career as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in New York at the age of 16.
Spotted by a talent scout, she was taken to Hollywood where her screen test impressed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer mogul Louis B. Mayer.

Class Act Featured Actress: Lucille Bremer
Lucille Bremer was born in Amsterdam, New York on February 21, 1917.
At Freed's invitation, Miss Bremer was screen tested in a scene from "Dark Victory." Louis B. Mayer was enthusiastic about Miss Bremer's talent, and advised Freed that "...She's going to be big, very big." MGM offered Miss Bremer a contract, and she was assigned to the Freed unit.
Lucille Bremer, disheartened with the studio, did not renew her contract, and in July 1948 she married Abalardo Rodriguez, son of a former president of Mexico.

Ziegfeld Follies (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ziegfeld Follies (MGM) is a 1946 Hollywood musical comedy film, directed by Roy Del Ruth and Vincente Minnelli, starring many of MGM leading talents, including Fred Astaire, Lucille Bremer, Judy Garland, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, Gene Kelly, Victor Moore, William Powell, Red Skelton, and Esther Williams.
Sung by Astaire with a short solo dance by Cyd Charisse, followed by Lucille Ball cracking a whip over eight chorus-girl panthers.
This Heart Of Mine: Classic standard by Harry Warren and Arthur Freed and written specially for Astaire who sings it to Bremer and then leads her in a superb, opulent and extravagantly romantic dance of seduction and power-play.

Grooming her for stardom, Freed awarded Bremer a supporting role in Meet Me in St. Louis, then twice teamed her with Fred Astaire in Yolanda and the Thief (1944) and Ziegfeld Follies (1945).
An undeniably talented dancer, Bremer's somewhat aloof screen personality precluded big-time stardom; by 1948, she was out of films altogether.
After her Hollywood career folded, Lucille Bremer married a Mexican millionaire, and for several years operated a successful children's clothing shop.

Slant Magazine - DVD Review: Meet Me in St. Louis
The Smith family is facing a crisis of their own: Just as the city is about to stage its grand coming out party on the world stage, Alonzo Smith (Leon Ames), the henpecked patriarch of the family, announces that his job requires that they relocate to New York City.
Unfortunately, Esther (Judy Garland) and Rose (Lucille Bremer) are just beginning to make serious gains in their husband hunt.
Though it wasn't the first musical to deal with any the elements of industrial progress or familial discord, it was undeniably one of the most successful.

dOc DVD Review: Ziegfeld Follies (Classic Musicals from the Dream Factory) (1946)
Here's to the Girls allows Astaire to don his trademark top hat and tails and briefly twirl a young Cyd Charisse, but it's Lucille Ball (in her most glamorous—and bizarre—movie moment) who grabs the spotlight when she grabs a whip and tames a pack of sequined female dancers who slink about the set like panthers.
Better known for portraying Garland's older sister in Meet Me in St. Louis than for her exquisite dancing, Bremer stands apart from the pack as one of Astaire's best post-Rogers partners.
If Bremer complements Astaire's sophisticated side, Gene Kelly allows Fred to show off his hoofing in The Babbitt and the Bromide, which cleverly documents three isolated meetings between two (very) casual friends over the years.

Movie Info for Yolanda and the Thief on MSN Movies
For the record, Fred Astaire stars as a suave but strangely unsympathetic con arstist Johnny Parkson Riggs, who convince sheltered South American heiress Yolanda (Lucille Bremer) that he's her guardian angel.
Candle (Leon Ames) watches the proceedings with seemingly detached amusement (guess who he turns out to be!) With the exception of "Coffee Time", most of the film's musical numbers are forgettable; Astaire and Lucille Bremer dance well together, but generate none of the charisma necessary to sustain a whimsical tale of this nature.
As for Bremer alone, her biggest scene takes place in an artfully arranged bubble bath; undeniably gorgeous, she frankly isn't much of an actress.

Judy Garland, who appears in a few scenes as stage star Marilyn Miller, contributes "Look for the Silver Lining" and a Gatsby-esque production number on "Who?" Her songs were staged by then-hubby Vincente Minnelli.
To fashion the plot of the musical, the creators might as easily have simply written down every clich situation they could think of, put them in a fishbowl, and drawn them out to see what order they would put them in.
Under the circumstances, it's hard to ask much of the actors; suffice it to say that Robert Walker does the best he can under the circumstances, Lucille Bremer does somewhat less than the best she can, and Van Heflin actually manages to rise above things a bit.
