The trees taken from the mountain were placed in the upper reaches of the Luckiamute River to create fish habitat.
About two miles of river downstream from the mountain is being improved with log jams that will create pools, shade and other habitat favored by spawning and resident winter steelhead in the Luckiamute River.
Boise was not required to participate in improving the Luckiamute River on its land, but its participation helps the company meet its internal environmental goals and the conditions of the Oregon Forest Practices Act and the Endangered Species Act, according to Dave Anderson, a Boise biologist who is also on the Luckiamute Watershed Council.

Numerous debris jams have been observed by residents of the Luckiamute/ Ash Creek watershed yet AHI surveys show that overall, large wood is scarce in the stream reaches surveyed.
Riparian areas (defined as 100ft on either side of the stream) in the Luckiamute watershed are dominated by dense conifer forests (43.5% of the riparian zone) and dense deciduous forests (19.4% of the riparian zone).
In addition to changing the composition and the distribution of plant communities in the Luckiamute/ Ash Creek watersheds, the increasing human population has dramatically affected the quality and quantity of water available in streams for use by fish and wildlife.

One of the most exciting things for the Luckiamute Watershed council in the last year was hiring their first professional Watershed Coordinator.
A partnership brokered by the Luckiamute Watershed Council and significantly funded by OWEB brought together the BLM, who wanted to restore a high elevation meadow habitat, and Boise Cascade, who wanted to enhance winter steelhead in a stream flowing through their forest land.
Nearly 200 large trees were removed from Bald Mountain by helicopter and placed in a 2.6-mile reach of the upper Luckiamute River to create in-stream structural complexity for the benefit of winter steelhead.

Fort Hoskins was constructed and initially garrisoned by Company G and F of the 4th U.S. Infantry under Captain Christopher C. Augur, and was named for First Lieutenant Charles Hoskins.
The site chosen was strategic in that it overlooked the Luckiamute Indian trail, one of two trails known at the time to the Siletz valley.
Construction of a 35 mile road over the coastal mountain range to the Siletz Blockhouse at Logsden on the Siletz river was undertaken by 2nd Lt. Philip H. Sheridan of U.S. Civil War fame in the last days of August 1856.

Between May and October of 2005, some 20 volunteers collected water quality data at 15 different locations throughout the Luckiamute river and Ash Creek watersheds.
From August through October, turbidity, a measure of water clarity, was measured monthly at six locations on the Luckiamute River.
The volunteers were trained by the Department of Environmental Quality and used approved methodology and equipment to produce the highest quality data.

Athapaskan languages were spoken mainly in southwest Oregon, with two tiny pockets of speakers in northwest Oregon, near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Penutian languages - a family that is rather loosely defined - were spoken on the central Oregon Coast, along the Lower Columbia, in the Cascades, in the Willamette Valley, and in the Rogue Valley.
It is possible that Chinookan speakers came down the Columbia River from Central Oregon and split apart the Salish language family at the mouth of the Columbia.
