Fox Studios made a series of Cisco Kid sound features in the 30s, starring Warner Baxter [1889-1951] and Cesar Romero [1907-94], both pairing with Chris-Pin Martin [1893-1953] as sidekick 'Gordito'.
The low-budget studio Monogram Pictures made a series of Cisco Kid features in the 1940s starring Duncan Renaldo [1904-80] and Gilbert Roland [1905-94].
n early 2001, a dozen videos of Cisco Kid features and tv episodes were put on the market, and the entire TV series is being released on DVD since 2004 – perhaps signs of a revival of interest in Cisco Kid.

Do You Remember The Great Old We
Movies and the television series made the Kid a heroic Mexican caballero but in the original story he was a non-Hispanic character and a cruel outlaw who was probably modelled on Billy the Kid.
With the exception of Jimmy Smits, who portrayed the Cisco Kid in a one-time 1994 made-for-television film, all the actors played the role in a number of films and Duncan Renaldo did it in film and on the television series.
The Cisco Kid had a sidekick in film, the first was 'Gordito' ("Fatty") portrayed by Chris-Pin Martin then 'Pancho', played by Martin Garralaga and later by Leo Carrillo.

He was born in New York to wealthy Cuban parents and played "Latin lovers" in films from the 1930s until the 1950s, usually in supporting roles.
He starred as Cisco Kid in six westerns made between 1939 and 1941.
Romero's Hollywood earnings allowed him to support his large family after his parents lost their sugar import business and suffered losses in the Stock Market Crash of 1929.

The Kid had appeared in only one short story written by Henry in the 1920's, and portrayed as a baddy, however in 1929 film director Raoul Walsh had made him the central character in his film In Old Arizona.
Wishing to cash in on The Cisco Kid's popularity for their newspaper strip features the King had commissioned writer Rod Reed to create the stories and Salinas to draw the strips.
By 1968 The Cisco Kid's popularity had waned, and Salinas, heartily fed-up of drawing comic strips, must have given a sigh of relief and been looking forward to a well deserved rest.

DVD Times - In Old Arizona
Famous for holding up stagecoaches but never robbing the individuals onboard, the Cisco Kid only wants to make enough to return to Portugal, the country he left when he was only a boy and for which he has only good memories, something that he shares with his girl, Tonia Maria (Dorothy Burgess).
The Cisco Kid thinks he may have the measure of Sgt Dunn but when it looks as though Tonia may have found a new man capable of offering a life in New York, the Cisco Kid must act quickly before someone finds themselves $5,000 richer.
In looking first at the positive aspects of the film, it is entertaining with a nice line in comedy both from the Cisco Kid as well as Mickey Dunn and the scene in which they compare the size of their guns is one that clearly slipped by a censor more naive than this reviewer.
