 Heckler & Koch G3

 BELLUM - Heckler & Koch G3
CETME consisted of an assembled team of Spanish and German weapon designers.
Amongst them Ludwig Vorgrimmler - generally recognized as the inventor of the delayed roller locking system.
The breech mechanism of the StG.45 (M) was used as the basis for the new design and prototypes of the new rifle were available for firing by 1952.

HKPRO:  The Internal Function of Roller Locked Firearms
The StG45 uses roller locking as did the MG42.
Refined first in the G3 rifle, it was the design of Mauser engineer Ludwig Vorgrimmler, used in the parental CETME rifle design, and perfected in the G3.
It does not seem necessary to go into a lengthy discussion of the roller system.

HK G3A3 - 7.62x51mm NATO - Germany - 550 RPM - When Fabrique Nationale refused to allow West German production of the FAL (G1) rifle, the Bundeswehr began to test other rifles such as the SIG StG57 (G2), the Armalite AR10 (G4), and the Spanish CETME rifle (G3).
The CETME rifle was designed by former Mauser engineer Ludwig Vorgrimmler, and the West German company Heckler and Koch (also former Mauser employees) had previously assisted CETME in preparing the Spanish production line for the rifle.
Thus, when the Bundeswehr adopted the G3 as it service rifle, HK was well prepared to bring the CETME design back to West Germany.

The CETME was indeed designed by some migrant Germans, displaced by the fall of the third reich.
The lead designer, as I recall, was a Ludwig Vorgrimmler (don't quote me on that spelling).
The CETME was originally chambered in a unique cartridge, the 7.92x40mm CETME round (8mm CETME will also do in reference).
