Falkenhausen was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the German Army in 1897 and served as a military attaché in Japan prior to the First World War.
Falkenhausen was sent to Belgium for trial in 1948, and in March 1951 he was sentenced to 12 years hard labour for deporting 25,000 Jews and executing Belgian hostages.

Von Falkenhausen was one of the few lucky owners of a BMW 328 sportscar and with this he nearly instantly began racing again as soon as the war was over.
The new car, the first one to be called AFM (Alexander von Falkenhausen, München), was a so-called "intertype", a two-seater sportscar with detachable wings and lights, which thus could be used in Formula races as well.
Of course this meant that the car had to be as simple as possible and therefore von Falkenhausen abandoned the space frame and returned to a rather conventional double-tube frame.

For the rest of the war von Lossberg was legendary as the fireman of the western front, always being sent by OHL to the area of crisis.
Although von Lossberg, it should be remembered, had been a critic of the fluid nature of the elastic defense-in-depth, Ludendorff called upon von Lossberg to rectify the situation at Arras and showed that disagreement did not destroy mutual confidence.

Von Falkenhausen, looking for a commercial base for his activities, set up a small production series of this engine, which achieved much success as a popular platform for special builders.
As von Falkenhausen soon realised that it would be much more promising to concentrate on one class only rather than his permanent switches, the car was fitted with the smaller 1500cc engine for 1948.
It seems that von Falkenhausen put his racing activities on the backburner for 1951, as he built two prototypes of a coupe and a roadster, based on a chassis similar to his monoposti and using Opel Super Six engines.

A tall, handsome blond young man in the German ideal, Von Borcke came from an old Prussian military family of the titled nobility.
Introduced to JEB Stuart by Confederate Secretary of War George Randolph, Von Borcke quickly became a dear friend of the equally young Confederate cavalier, and from then on the Prussian was rarely far from Stuart's side.
Despite a regrettable tendency to ascribe to himself a number of exploits which were actually the actions of others, Von Borcke's writings about his year on Stuart's staff and subsequent adventures in Virginia following his near-fatal wounding in June 1863 are entertaining and fill in a number of historical gaps.

Each platoon was given a 30,000 specific task by their commanding officers, rather than vague Casualties instructions from an absent general.
The attack and objective had little grand-strategic significance, and as the simultaneous British and Australian attack to the south of the Ridge was unsuccessful, very little was actually achieved after the Canadian victory.
