Bullish on the Indian market, which contributed 21 per cent to its Asia Pacific passenger business revenue, German airlines Lufthansa is exploring the possibility of operating to new destinations in the western and eastern region of the country, including Kolkata.
Lufthansa vice-president, Asia and Pacific, Uwe Mueller, said in Bangalore that the European carrier was evaluating new destinations and a decision is expected within the next 4-5 weeks.
Lufthansa currently operates 42 flights out of India per week; twice daily flights from Delhi to Frankfurt and Munich, and once daily flight to Frankfurt from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

FRANKFURT, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Lufthansa Cargo AG plans to increase general cargo rates from Germany and the rest of Europe from October 1 to counter falling yields and increased costs, the carrier said.
But the Deutsche Lufthansa AG freight subsidiary, which has seen profits slump in recent months due to the international air cargo market slowdown, will freeze rates at present levels for freight forwarders ready to sign one-year capacity deals.
Lufthansa Cargo, the world's largest international air cargo carrier, said the price increases were designed to compensate for declining yields in the past few months as well as rising costs, such as higher airport charges.
