Lumphini Park, Bangkok Thailand, Parks in Thailand
Located on the corner of Silom and Rama IV Rds, right in the center of the busiest part of town, Lumphini Park fills up on weekends with smiles and laughter that stand out in defiance of the traffic-induced misery that surrounds the park.
Named after the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Lumphini Park was a final gift to the Thai people from King Rama VI in 1925.
Lumphini Park is open everyday from 6:00 AM until 8:00 PM (although some sections close at 6:00 PM).

The first time I visited Lumphini Park [1] more than 20 years ago, it was in the month of May. That time of the year, day maximums invariably exceeded 35 degrees Celsius.
Lumphini Park even has a building that reminds me of the Lido house in Hyde Park, built as it was in a romanesque style, totally alien to the Siamese tradition.
It only confirms how Lumphini Park was one great transplant from the West, and included within the package was the exoticisation of the East, even though Siam was right here in the same East.

Lumphini Park is popular with joggers, keep-fit enthusiasts, families and sportsmen, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon.
This sport is traditionally played by a loosely formed circle of men who use feet, knees, thighs, chests and shoulders to acrobatically pass a woven rattan ball to each other, endeavouring to keep it airborne, and eventually kick it into a basket suspended above their heads.
