Victoria was founded in 1906 as a planned community on what had been largely undeveloped land in Lunenburg County, Virginia during the construction of the Tidewater Railway.
This was a new railroad intended to transport coal to be originated by its sister Deepwater Railway operating in southern West Virginia.
The Virginia General Assembly granted a charter and incorporated the Town of Victoria on March 11, 1916.

Lunenburg County was formed from Brunswick County in 1746 as a very large county that originally encompassed ten counties into which it was eventually divided.
Robert apparently moved from Lunenburg County to Halifax County, Virginia, as he was identified in 1763 as being from there, at the same time as he sold part of his land to Artha Brooks.
A Surry County marriage bond in 1788 for Agnes Gentry and Amariah Felton (a neighbor of Nicholas'), almost certainly was for a daughter of Nicholas.

There are voluminous references to Joseph in Lunenburg County, but the only reference to him in Louisa County was in 1762 when he was one of three of Samuel Gentry's sons to witness the sale of the latter's last remnant of land in that county.
Joseph had as many references in the county court minutes as all of the rest of the Gentrys in Lunenburg County put together -- twice the number of his older brother David which in itself was a lot.
The designation "south side of the Yadkin River" referred to the portion of Surry County that was south of the west-to-east portion of the river, and west of the north-to-south portion of the river.
