Lung Fu Shan Country Park in Hong Kong, covers the densely vegetated slopes of Lung Fu Shan, including the disused Pinewood Battery as well as the Pinewood Garden picnic area, providing a scenic backdrop to the residential and commercial districts of Hong Kong Island.
Towards the east of Lung Fu Shan Country Park is Hatton Road, to the south is Harlech Road whereas to the north and west is a covered conduit constructed by the Water Supplies Department.
This country park covers an area of about 47 hectares and also commands an excellent vistas of the western part of the territory and the Victoria Harbour.

 AFCD Lung Fu Shan
This military relic is preserved within the protected realm of the country park, with an interpretation plate to introduce its history.
Sitting on a knoll in Lung Fu Shan Country Park, Pinewood Battery is the remains of an old military fort built in 1903.

Stage 1 of the Lantau Trail actually goes along the same street to Nam Shan, but in the opposite direction starting in Mui Wo (so what we have done is very similar to Stage 1).
We reach Keung Shan Road at Sham Wat Road, and we are lucky that the third bus 23 back from the Big Buddha statue to Tung Chung has a few empty seats, so we can return home.
We park the car on the car park above the Kowloon Reservoirs on Tai Po Road and start climbing up the northern part of the trail which coincides with Stage 5 of the MacLehose Trail (see report).

Winding ever upward, we entered the Lung Fu Shan Country Park, which is, I think, both the newest and smallest of the country parks (it fits neatly into a kilometre square).
There was a nice view of Mount Davis from the top but, as Kaz correctly pointed out several times on the way up, this was a rather pointless exercise, because we had to come back down the same way and the view is more or less the same from Pinewood Battery.
The Pinewood battery site is similar to the Mount Davis site, but it has been tamed by the country park development and is, in truth, a pleasanter site to explore, especially for kids.
