  Lunt Information
It is widely regarded that the Lunt Fort in Baginton was used as a horse training centre by the Romans.
Set on the edge of the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts in the small town of Greenfield, Lunt Silversmiths was founded in 1882 by George C. Lunt and Anthony Towle with the goal of manufacturing the finest sterling tableware and giftware.
Lunt is an ancient village that, because of its small size, has escaped the roving eye of historians.

 THE LUNT BAGINTON
This turf and timber fort had most of its interior buildings rebuilt in stone, aside from the three timber-built granaries and the gyrus, which now lay in the central area of the new fort adjacent to the eastern defences.
The fort was shortened during Period III by abandoning the area to the south of the Period II via principalis and building a rampart along the southern edge of this road; the gyrus and other internal buildings to the north of the road were retained.
The fort of Period III likely represents further scaling-down of operations at the fort which continued to operate with a reduced garrison for a short time before the defences were finally demolished and the site abandoned during the administration of governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola, its garrison possibly withdrawn for use in his northern campaigns.

BBC - Coventry and Warwickshire Features - Lunt Fort
The Lunt Roman Fort in Baginton village is on the southern edge of Coventry.
Sadly the walls that flank the gateway and form the basis of the eastern defence have deteriorated over the years and are currently unsafe for the public.
If the Lunt Fort is to become a bigger attraction it needs to better maintain what it already has and build a lot more on what remains from the first century AD.

The settlement was given the name of Fort Cedar because of the abundance of trees which were called "cedar" trees, although technically they are junipers.
The boxes from the wagons were removed and used for temporary shelters while small log homes were constructed from the trunks and large limbs of cottonwood trees as well as float material found along the creek bottoms several miles to the west.
Later, a site for the fort was selected nearer the proposed blast furnace, at the present city park, which was to have been a "company town" but was not developed.

A small annex which was attached to the south rampart was found to be 0.57 acres, seemingly in connection with the stone fort as the 2nd century south road is clearly seen to avoid the annex ditch, though equally present in the early phases too.
The fort buildings are conventional with the normal auxiliary fort plan, the principia being central, faced east and flanked by a double horrea, north, and praetorium, south.
Excavation of auxiliary forts (South Shields, Arbeia) has shown that stones were the favoured missile, and of a round flat size, similar to the type used by children to bounce over water, the rampart would have had piles of these stones.
