Luo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to ethnologists, linguists and oral history, the Luo are part of the Nilotic group of tribes who separated from the East Sudanic family of tribes about 3000 BCE.
The Luo moved to nearly all the countries neighbouring Sudan, resulting in many separate groups with variation in language and tradition as each group moved further away from their kin.
A branch of the Luo, the Shilluk (or Chollo) nation, comprising more than one hundred clans and sub-tribes, was founded by Nyikango sometime in the middle of the 15th century.

Nilotic people, including Luo and Ateker entered the area from the north probably beginning about A.D. They were cattle herders and subsistence farmers who settled mainly the northern and eastern parts of the country.
Some Luo invaded the area of Bunyoro and assimilated with the Bantu there, establishing the Babiito dynasty of the current Omukama (ruler) of Bunyoro-Kitara.
Luo migration proceeded until the 16th century, with some Luo settling amid Bantu people in Eastern Uganda, and proceeding to the western shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya and Tanzania.

Luo history is also marked by periodic episodes of major famine caused by crop failures and cattle epidemics.
However, oral histories indicate that the degree to which individuals in the past were able to transform their informal influence into naturalized positions of authority and power varied somewhat from region to region.
The Luo case also illustrates the subtle ways in which social categories and boundaries are symbolically marked by the ritual practices of feasts, and why those operative among the empowering feasts of the Luo are quite different in their symbolic logic from those described for the diacritical feast.

BabelStone : The Textual History of Sanguo Yanyi : Authorship
The evidence for Luo Guanzhong's composition of the first three of these novels is limited to their authorship credits, which all ascribe their "textual compilation" to Luo Guanzhong of Dongyuan, and references within their respective prefaces.
However, as this tradition was built around the popular legend that Luo Guanzhong's descendants were struck dumb as a punishment for his writing a novel that was perceived of as advocating banditry, there is good reason to doubt the authenticity of this tradition.
If Luo Guanzhong was indeed the author of Sanguo Yanyi, then he cannot have written (or at least completed) his novel until sometime after his last meeting with the author of the sequel to Lugui Bu in Zhizheng 24 [1364], as there is no mention of Luo Guanzhong's fiction-writing activities in his biography.
