Our goals were to evaluate the characteristics of Palaeolithic sites in the region, and to understand their relations with their natural settings.
Once our research is completed, we should be able to attribute the various environmental niches of these sites to their chronological positions.

This time framework allowed to unravel the complex Cretaceous history which is characterised by the alternation of carbonate platforms and intrashelf basins, periods of siliciclastic influx, shifting depocenters, and major basin re-organisation.
Extensive sedimentological work on the excellent outcrops of the Cretaceous rocks in the Zagros Mountains in SW Iran, in combination with biostratigraphic work on ammonites, pelagic foraminifera and Orbitolinids, and C and O isotope curves, have led to the definition of 15 3rd order sequence boundaries and corresponding flooding surfacesin an area of 30.000 km2.
A general subdivision of the Cretaceous succession in 4 stages is proposed, each of them characterised by a specific 1) ecosystem of carbonate producing organisms, 2) architecture of the carbonate systems, 3) tectonic context, and 4) palaeogeography.

TEHRAN May 15 (MNA) –- Executive measures for the construction of Ivashan, Hozian and Kamandan dams in Lurestan Province was initiated during a ceremony attended by the Sixth Majlis MPs of Lurestan province as well as the Energy Minister and some provincial officials.
Ivashan dam will be located 15 kilometers from Khorramabad, with a height of 70 meters and with the capacity of 52 million liters per annum, it will be able to meet the water needs for the irrigation of 5,700 hectares of farmland.

ISN SECURITY WATCH (Friday, 31 March: 11.45 CET) – Dozens have been killed and hundreds wounded in a series of earthquakes which struck western Iran on Friday morning.
The governor of Lurestan province, which was hardest hit by the temblor, told Iranian state television that at least 50 people died and 800 were wounded in the quakes.
A local official told Al Jazeera that rescue teams had been dispatched to help survivors in the worst affected areas.

The passage from passive margin to foreland in the Zagros Fold Belt as well as the onset of foreland deformation by folding and thrusting is investigated by means of AFTA and magnetosptratigraphy together with biostratigraphy in the Push-e Kush Arc in Iran.
represents the first massive NE-derived clastic arrival to central parts of the basin in Lurestan.
Results based on preliminary magnetostratigraphic analyses show a Maastrichtian age for Amiran deposits infilling this early foreland basin formed as a consequence of early-middle Late Cretaceous tectonic emplacement of ophiolites (~90 Ma based on detrital AFTA).
