  Luscinia
Luscinia is a genus of small passerine birds formerly classed as members of the thrush family, but now considered to be Old World flycatchers.
Recent research (Seki, 2006) suggests that the genus should be split, with most species being retained in Luscinia and a new genus uniting East Asian forms like the Siberian Blue Robin with the East Asian Erithacus species.
The Luscinia species are stocky small birds, 13-16 cm long with an upright stance and short frequently cocked tail.

BROOD DIVISION IS ASSOCIATED WITH FLEDGLING DISPERSION IN THE BLUETHROAT (LUSCINIA S. SVECICA)
No hypothesis has proved to be of general validity, and Harp- er (1985) pointed out that the various expla- nations for brood division are not exclusive and do not need to be equally applicable to all spe- cies.
In particular, we examined whether brood division was related to the spatial dis- persion of young, and we looked at parental provisioning to individual young both in the nest and after fledging.

 PI-Nightingale Reed-warbler
Three subspecies of nightingale reed-warbler are currently recognized in the Mariana Islands: Acrocephalus luscinia luscinia (Guam, Saipan, Alamagan), Acrocephalus luscinia nijoi (Aguiguan) and Acrocephalus luscinia yamashinae (Pagan).
Acrocephalus luscinia nijoi of the presently uninhabited island of Aguiguan was first reported in 1940 by a Japanese collector, and surveys conducted by the Commonwealth in 1983 and 1985 yielded a maximum count of six individuals.
Acrocephalus luscinia yamashinae of uninhabited Pagan has been little studied, and is believed to have survived in small numbers until at least the 1960s.

We studied the sex ratio of Bluethroat Luscinia svecica broods using AFLPs.
Our aim was to test whether there is a bias towards males that could be explained by sexual selection theories, or conversely, a bias towards females that could help explain the female-biased sex ratio among juveniles observed at a wintering site.
Thus, sex determination in the Bluethroat seems to match the classical Mendelian model of a 1:1 sex ratio and cannot explain the biased sex ratio towards juvenile females found at the wintering site.

Using a combination of three primer pairs, we reached an exclusion probability of 93% for the population.
This technique allows the approximate estimation of parentage exclusions despite the fact that it is not possible to know which parent has to be excluded.
