Lustron houses are unique examples of the nation's response to housing shortages following World War II.
Almost all of the parts in these houses were steel, and the panels used for the interior and exterior walls, the ceiling, and the roof were coated with porcelain enamel.
The Lustron Corporation was only able to produce about 2,500 of these houses before they were forced to close.

Changing the decor of the Lustron is generally not possible by any conventional means because the porcelain coating will take no paint or glues and the steel panels are permanently marred by cutting them.

Loudonville, NY There were originally five Loudonville Lustrons on Clover Lane (one was either moved or destroyed, one is sided-over, and the other three are shown here).
The other yellow Lustron is has the garage in front (an unusual plan) which partially conceals the house.
There were three other Lustrons in Loudonville just a few blocks away from Clover Lane on Osborne Rd. Two are now sided-over and one was either moved or demolished.
