In 1429 Lutsk was a meeting place for a conference of monarchs on handling the Tartar threat organized by Ladislaus II of Poland and Jadwiga of Poland.

The Battle of Lutsk of 4-6 June 1916 heralded the launch of the Russian Brusilov Offensive and started the remarkable run of sweeping successes enjoyed by Russian Commander Alexei Brusilov until the Offensive later ran out of steam.
Lutsk had earlier suffered the attentions of the abortive Austro-Hungarian so-called 'Black-Yellow' offensive in 1915.
With the pounding of Russian artillery - creating more than fifty breaches in barbed wire defences - the Lutsk defenders fled in wholesale panic; however extensive use of barbed wire around Austro-Hungarian fortified positions meant that many were unable to escape and consequently taken prisoner by the Russians.

As the results of her initiative and persistence there is a well-ordered territory around the institution, obstetric and utility buildings have been repaired, but the main thing - cardinally changed for the better methods of providing care for pregnant, women in birth, women recently confined, new-borns, gynaecological patients.
And inspite of the additional loading, the staff is proud and very glad for every woman who has decided to continue her kin in Lutsk Clinical Maternity Hospital.

LUTSK, Ukraine - The Volynian Regional Children's Medical Center (VRCMC) officially dedicated its Newborn Intensive Care Ward to the memory of Dr. Vera Matushevsky, a pediatrician from the northwestern Ukrainian province who fell victim to the Stalin purges and perished in Mordovia in the 1940s.
Bakum targeted the Lutsk hospital as a tribute to her grandmother, who worked with the Ukrainian resistance and devoted much of her life to the children of Volyn and to the independence of Ukraine.
Refurbished by local Lutsk businessmen who had donated free labor and building materials, the Volyn hospital and its satellite clinics have become the envy of neighboring regions.

Yaschylin, director of the Lutsk hospital, sent photographs and a personal letter from the Davydiuk family, whose daughter Viktoria was the first infant to benefit from an emergency transport incubator, delivered by the CCRF.
