	INDON CREWMAN RECOVERED IN SULU
		Ernesto Carolina, chief of the military’s Southern Command, said second officer Ferdinan Joel was recovered by residents of a village near the town of Luuk.
		The four were reported to have been abducted by armed men who boarded the tugboat towing the Indonesian-flagged barge Labroy 179 near the island of Basilan, the Abu Sayyaf’s main base.
		He said the abduction may have been meant to divert the military’s attention on their comrades who are under intensified military assault in Zamboanga del Norte.

		Luuk is one of the poorer towns of Sulu and only recently, under a mayor described as "development-oriented," has it seen new structures rise (public market, school, police station, street lights, concrete roads) and improved services (water supply, electricity, cable TV in barangays, irrigation) reach an otherwise static place.
		Sulu is predominantly Muslim and is host not only to the Abu Sayyaf but to another anti-government armed group as well, the Nur Misuari faction of the Moro National Liberation Front.
		Gen. Narciso Abaya, Southcom chief, said Sulu and Basilan differ in history and demography, but this will not make the Balikatan in Sulu "more complicated." There are hardly any Christians who can be used as human shields in Sulu, he pointed out, thus it may be easier to pursue the Abu Sayyaf.
