Euro (A metal piece (usually a disc) used as money) coins and (A piece of paper money (especially one issued by a central bank)) banknotes (see (Click link for more info and facts about euro banknotes) euro banknotes) came into circulation on January 1 2002.
The coins were minted in several of the participating countries, many using blanks produced at (Click link for more info and facts about Birmingham Mint) Birmingham Mint, (A city in central England; 2nd largest English city and an important industrial and transportation center) Birmingham, (A division of the United Kingdom) England.
Unlike normal issues, these coins are not (Something used as an official medium of payment) legal tender in all the eurozone, but only in the country where the coin was issued.
