The History of Rock Music. Lydia Lunch: biography, discography, reviews, links
Lydia Lunch, their 17-year old "vocalist", was given only a few seconds to scream them, and didn't even try to do a professional job.

Lydia Lunch and Exene Cervenka - Rude Hieroglyphics
Lunch and Cervenka identify the labels society uses to alienate and condemn, and this performance makes up one part of what seems to be at least in Lydia's case (I'm more familiar with her work) an extended project of living as vengeance.
Lydia Lunch hated 8-eyed spy, which was formed as an alternative to Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and Beirut Slump, and ditched the band right after they had recorded the five studio tracks.

Lydia had been writing poetry and stories since she was 10, so the underground creativity of the Big Apple was instantly appealing to her.To begin with she inflicted her rants and speeches on the not-so-innocent by-standers in the streets of New York, but soon realised that thisformat was just not loud enough.
Lydia's stories recorded on the first collection of spoken word pieces, 'The Uncensored Lydia Lunch', were autobiographical and cruel in their detail.

Lydia Lunch has over 25 years of activity as subversive chanteuse and polemical provocateur behind her.
Where most people may find it difficult to keep the rage up for that long, Lunch seems to have a never-ceasing capacity to fan the flame of frustration, which her recent live performances as well as new album “Smoke in the Shadows” are able proofs of.
Lunch’s singing voice also sounds better than it probably ever has, ranging from veiled desperation to a bluesy drawl that suits the music and her lyrics perfectly.

The incendiary duo -- Lydia Lunch, the punk scene queen and performance-art maven who got her start, in the late '70s, playing guitar with Teenage Jesus and the Jerks; and Exene Cervenka of X -- sent the Central Square club up in a blaze of anarcho-feminist oration that drew out 100-plus loyal troops.
Lunch and Cervenka spiraled their dueling monologues into a cyclone of apocalyptic wrath, lamenting everything from sexism, rape, poverty, war, AIDS, "ecological genocide," and industry's Third World "Labor Camp" to the unpunished hubris of O.J. the religious right, and that evil succubus, Courtney Love.
Although I disliked the free-floating "they-noia" that tainted their perspective, assigning omnipotent, malicious conspiracies to every nook and cranny of society, the crowd's incessant chorus of "You go, girl!" told me I was outnumbered.

Lydia Lunch: Smoke in the Shadows - PopMatters Music Review
Proto-goth goddess Lydia Lunch has long been mistress of her own kitsch genre, reciting in her tough, ceaselessly sarcastic croak her bathetic tales of masochistic women and the men who kick them.
Whatever edge Lunch's shtick might once have had, it's totally stripped away now, though what's left is satisfying the way good pornography can be, eschewing nuance and complexity in order to press the same sordid, predictable buttons, all while managing not to be completely bereft of imagination.
For all her darkness and her posturing, Lunch is never cynical, in the end, she's never disillusioned from the sweet adolescent fantasy about love, always implicitly insisting that it can be the end all and be all of life, forever worth killing and groveling for.
