There is no record of Lydia's death but it is probable that she died before 1709 when her husband is allotted 10 acres of land.
It is probable that Lydia Hamilton, as a widow, and later as Lydia Abbott, lived in the small house in "Abbott's Orchard", at the south end of upper Shawme Pond.
This legend probably arose because Lydia lived there from 1677 without final approval from the town, but obtained the land by town grant in 1688, when her brother Daniel Wing obtained larger grants adjacent and built there.
