But Mark Ridgeway, whose family owns the property leased by Country Road, on the corner of Lygon and Faraday streets, fears the council is proposing a ban that strips away property owners' choices.
However, the council's own policy discourages the "proliferation of restaurants in Lygon Street" and a recent council report recommends "balancing the local and regional/tourist role of the street".
