  Lyman Poore Duff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sir Lyman Poore Duff, PC, GCMG (Ontario, January 7, 1865 – April 26, 1955) was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and briefly served as Acting Governor General of Canada in 1940.
In 1931, he served as Administrator of the Government of Canada between the departure of The Earl of Bessborough for India and the arrival of John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir.
Duff took on the position as the Chief Justice was unavailable.

Though he held office only briefly, it can be argued that Justice Duff was the true first Canadian Governor General of Canada, and not Vincent Massey (1952-1959) who is usually recognized as such.
