 A Brief History of Lymington
Lymington was made a town by the Lord of the manor, William de Redvers, in the period 1190-1200 (the exact year is not known).
For one thing Lymington was further from the coalfields than other places where salt was manufactured and the cost of transporting the coal had to be passed on to the consumer.
The population of Lymington was 4,182 in 1851 but it hardly changed in the second half of the 19th century.

The photograph of the 2 police dogs and my Mother (Molly) was taken at the Police House which was adjacent to the Lymington Sub-Division Police Station - about 1960/1.
The Police Station was quite large with a huge drill area in the back, with a garage for at least 5 vehicles and an attached dog kennel with 2 runs for strays (which my Mum fed).
