Support Restoration of Canada Lynx to Southern Rocky Mountains!
Lynx face severe threats in the region, including inappropriate logging practices, ski resort developments, interstate highways, and irresponsible snowmobile use; therefore, full Endangered Species Act protection is necessary.
The Canada lynx used to inhabit the Southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico, but trapping and habitat destruction have driven this secretive cat to near extinction in the Southern Rockies and much of the rest of its former range.
Emphasize that lynx historically inhabited the Southern Rockies (as well as New England and the Great Lakes region, the other two regions where lynx protection was minimized by the Fish and Wildlife Service), and that Critical Habitat must be designated in the Southern Rockies as well as other regions.

Snowcat Skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with Steamboat Powdercats
It sure is. The Buffalo Pass road offers a perfect boundary line where the Forest Service should establish a non-motorized area to the north of the road and allow for the south side to remain open for all motorized uses including snowmobiling and snowmobile assisted skiing.
Snowmobiles would be restricted to the Buffalo Pass Road through the snowcat operating area and snowmobiling on Long Lake and Fish Creek Reservoir would be prohibited.
391 acres in the Muddy Pass Lake area would be closed to snowmobiling to provide a lynx/wildlife protection corridor.
