James Lyon a son of William Lyon was born in Kentucky.
Robert N. Lyon was mustered into the Confederate Army on 19 March 1861, at Houston, MS, in the Chickasaw Guards, Company H, 11th Mississippi Regiment, at the age of 21 (20) and was appointed 3rd Corporal on 25 April 1861.
James L. Lyon, CSA was wounded at the 2nd Manassas and severely wounded at Gettysburg during "Picketts' Charge" shrapnel in the left leg and loss of his left arm.

During the summer of 2001, archaeological investigations were undertaken at the Lyon's Bluff site in conjunction with the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work's archaeological field school under the direction of Cobb Research Associate and Associate Professor of Anthropology Evan Peacock.
The gradiometer survey was conducted by Dr. Jay Johnson and students from the University of Mississippi.
Johnson is a Professor of Anthropology and director of the Center for Archaeological Research at the University of Mississippi.

General Nathaniel Lyon was born in Ashford, Conn., 14 July 1818 and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1841.
Transferred to the Navy 30 September 1862, she was renamed General Lyon on 24 October 1862, Master John R. Neeld in command.
General Lyon returned to Mound City, 111., 17 February 1865, decommissioned 3 August, and was sold to H. Lee 17 August 1865.

USS General Lyon, a 390-ton side-wheel river steamer, was built in 1860 at New Albany, Indiana, as the civilian ship De Soto.
Changing her name from De Soto to General Lyon in October 1862, the Navy's Mississippi Squadron used her as a ordnance, stores and dispatch vessel during the remainder of the Civil War.
General Lyon was decommissioned and sold in August 1865.
