Lyon Township was founded on March 7, 1834 as a general law township.
Approximately 32 square miles in size, the Township is bordered by Dixboro Road on the west, Napier Road to the east, Pontiac Trail to the north and Eight Mile Road to the south.
The population of Lyon Township in the 2000 Census was 11,041, an increase of 1,591 over 1990.

Lyon Township residents who live on Lake Angela are concerned that its water level has dropped because developers are installing a sewer system in the area.
Developers putting in sewer systems in Lyon Township are draining large amounts of water out of Lake Angela, according to some of the 200 residents around the lake who are concerned about its effect on their recreation, wildlife and property values.
Chris Olson, Lyon Township superintendent, said Lake Angela has receded about 15 feet since June due to a "dewatering project" of area soils in order to install a sewer system to support a large-scale housing development to be built along 11 Mile.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Lucas, who had absconded from parole for a 2002 charge of assault during an attempted armed robbery, planned to flee the state with his girlfriend, but Wallace stood in the way.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Retzlaff - who has a record of crimes dating to 1985 for such offenses as drug possession, breaking and entering, larceny and embezzlement in Oakland, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties - violated his parole July 10.

The third county park that would receive grant funding is Rose Oaks, located north of Rose Center Road and east of Fish Lake Road in Rose Township.
According to John Noyes of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department, the project is entitled the "Natural Areas Accessibility Program," and is "a proposal for financial assistance and construction of a series of boardwalks, fishing piers, boat launches and wildlife viewing platforms to promote recreational access to significant natural areas" at the three parks.
Noyes said that Rose, Lyon and Highland Oaks were chosen because they are three Oakland County parks with "highly significant natural areas," or high-quality habitat, which currently don't provide much access.

A John Putman seems to have lived in the early Township of Lebanon, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and seems to have been connected by a daughter's marriage to the Samuel Swayze family of Chester.
Peter Putman according to History of Cattaraugus County, New York, grew up in the "Delaware River Country." This was probably the Upper Mount Bethel area of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, where Victor David Potman and Margaret Wiser lived and seem to have left land to a John Potman.
A land deed between Henry Cuyler, perhaps Collier, of Greenbush, Renesselerwick County, New York, and Peter Putman dated May 19, 1800, indicates that Henry Cuyler had purchased 1,500 acres of land along the Delaware River in Sandyston, New Jersey (from James Parker of Perth Amboy), and on this date conveyed 152 acres to Peter Putman.
