LYONSVillage officials say the local wastewater treatment plant meets state standards, even though an environmental advocacy group gave the system a D- and says that most of the 22 New York sewage treatment systems it rated aren’t operating as cleanly as they could.
The report indicates that the Lyons plant does not disinfect all of the wastewater it discharges into the canal and does not remove enough nutrients, such as phosphorous and nitrogen, from the water.
Lyons Mayor Corrine Kleisle said she was aware of the report and had talked to Chadwick and the village’s engineering firm, MRB Group of Rochester, about it.
