Mr Donnellan said Lysterfield Park had been chosen because of its proximity to central Melbourne, its popularity among recreational mountain bikers and long-term plans by Parks Victoria to develop environmentally friendly cycling trails.
The State Mountain Bike Course at Lysterfield Park will include: around 14 kilometres of trails, including a six kilometre elite competition course; a signage system to safely separate walkers and recreational cyclists and an environmental management plan to protect areas of high-value vegetation.
Mr Donnellan said $3 million would be invested in upgrading and expanding Lysterfield Park’s existing trails and will be a tangible legacies from hosting the Commonwealth Games.

 Fat Tyre Flyers - Victoria's premier mountain bike club
Please be advised that there has been significant damage to Tracks in Lysterfield Park and Churchill National Park due to the recent storm on the 3rd of February and also we have had 38 mm of Rain today also.
Many Tracks within the Parks have erosion and care should be taken when riding on these Tracks.
It would also be appreciated if you re-iterate the fact to keep to formed and existing Trails and not to go off Road.

Lysterfield was definitely getting a bit boring, but the creation of quite a lot of singletrack recently has made it a lot more interesting.
