The old lifeboat house is now a Lifeboat Museum telling the story of Lytham lifeboats from 1851 to the present day.
A lifeboat was first stationed at Lytham in 1851 by the Shipwrecked Mariners Society, later replaced by the RNLI, and the twelve lifeboats, which have been stationed in Lytham over the years, have saved hundreds of lives.
Lytham lifeboat is famous for its rescue, in December 1886, of the crew of the 'Mexico', following two disastrous attempts by Southport and St Anne's lifeboats.

Lytham beach WILL be open for the use of buggying in a designated area.
All in all good news but the process is slow and will take some time, I suggested to the guy to place a section on Lytham council website to keep the public informed of progress and he agreed to do it.
Chris has to write up some recommendations but they are going to allow the sport on Lytham beach - the only restriction will be no buggying within 200 yards of the dunes, he says that the ban will be lifted no later than the beginning of September.

1999 posed a new challenge for the crew of Lytham St Annes Station with the decision after a winter of trials to abandon the mooring at Lytham and launch from St Annes beach.
On the 9th of December in 1886 three Lifeboats from St Annes, Southport and Lytham launched to the assistance of the Hamburg trading Barque "Mexico".
Lytham luckily survived and rescued the Captain and crew off the "Mexico", only to launch again later to go and look for the missing St Annes Lifeboat.

A motor lifeboat arrived at Lytham in 1931, after the closure of the St Annes station the Lytham station became known as Lytham St Annes.
A new lifeboat house was built at Lytham in 1960 a short distance away from the 1863 building.
