Chernykh was born in the city of Usman' in Voronezh Oblast.
The asteroid 2325 Chernykh was named in their honour.

Nikolai Stepanovich Chernykh (Николай Степанович Черных) (born October 6 1931) is a Russian astronomer.
He specializes in astrometry and the dynamics of small bodies in the solar system, and has worked since 1963 at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Ukraine.
He has also discovered a very large number of asteroids, including notably 2867 Steins and the Trojan asteroid 2207 Antenor.

Today I learnt that there is an asteroid named after Karl Marx.
It was discovered in 1969 by Russian astronomer Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernykh.
She has discovered 268 asteroids in total, just under half the number discovered by her astronomer husband!
