The Motorway Archive. M11 London to Cambridge Motorway
One of the largest motorway projects ever to be engineered by a single consultant, this section of the M11 ran a distance of 63.6 kilometres northwards from Redbridge in east London to Stump Cross, where it temporarily rejoined the A11 south of Cambridge prior to the completion of the Cambridge Western By-pass.
In the flood plain the embankments carrying the motorway rose to nine metres, and the only sections of cutting were at the western limit where an existing A406 cutting was widened, and a 3.2 kilometre length north of Woodford Bridge where the route curves away from the river through higher sloping ground.
Most of the M11 bridges were built to standard 'type' designs, and therefore many of the bridges on contracts 4A and 4B were similar to designs already built on the completed sections of the motorway.

  M11 motorway - Biocrawler
The M11 motorway in England is a major road running approximately south-north from northeast London to Cambridge.
The M11 begins at a free-flowing junction with the North Circular Road (A406) near South Woodford railway station in the London Borough of Redbridge, and heads north-northeast, crossing the boundary from Greater London into Essex.
In 1977 the main runway was shortened to 6,000 ft (1829 m) to enable the motorway to be built, and aircraft landing from the west or undertaking displays have at times come to rest on the motorway or just beyond it.

  M11 (London to Cambridge)
Junction 8 used to be the end of the motorway for a while after it was built and when they extended it to Cambridge they only built two lanes, which was a bit mean of them.
The rest of the motorway is particularly dull as we descend in to East Anglian flatness.
As for extending the M11 north, they could upgrade the A14 to motorway standard (all the rest of the A14 is), from Cambridge as far as the A1 at Alconbury, and rename it the M11 (A14), i.e.
