The consortium of Macquarie, Transurban, Leighton and Abigroup was this week announced by the Federal Government as the preferred consortium to design, build, maintain and operate the 39-kilometre Western Sydney Orbital between the M2 and Seven Hills and the M5 at Prestons.
The Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board today said the Western Sydney Orbital should be completed well before its projected completion date of 2007, with the appointment of Westlink Motorway Ltd a clear indication that the $1.5 billion project will now begin to progress rapidly.
I am confident that the northern section of the Western Sydney Orbital between the M2 and the M5 could now be open by 2005, with the total project completed in 2006.
