M275 motorway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The M275 is a two-mile long, dual three-lane motorway in the county of Hampshire, southern England.
It is the principal route for entering and leaving Portsmouth.
From the motorway, there are scenic views over Portsmouth harbour, and at one point, between the two carriageways of the motorway, there is an interesting structure in the shape of a sail.

The principal safety concern arises from the interruption to the free flow of traffic on the M275 slip road due to the formation of the proposed junction.
Whilst the inside lane of the slip road becomes the inside lane of the motorway, traffic leaving the signals in the outside lane will have a much reduced length of slip road in which to 2 reach a safe merging speed.
That the concerns as to the adverse safety aspects of a direct link from Portsmouth Ferry Port to the M275 at Rudmore be drawn to the attention of Portsmouth City Council.

However, if the speed of traffic on the motorway could be reduced, then reduced standards might be applied to the road geometry and a slip road into the site off the southbound carriageway may then be achievable.
In addition, the M275 north of Tipner Bridge, over which the lower speed limit would need to be applied, is, in the Agency's view, a rural derestricted motorway and is considered to be perceived as such by drivers.
The M275 is classified as a rural motorway and, hence, in its view, reduced urban standards are not appropriate.
