The M32 was apparently meant to be one of two motorways entering Bristol: the other, a spur from the south, would have left the M5 at junction 20, near Clevedon; however, evidence for this southern motorway link is sketchy.
The sharp bend signposted just ahead is the former entry to the roundabout, where now the motorway simply has a sharp curve.
Straight ahead is signed as "City Centre M32" even though the motorway terminates when the sliproads from this interchange merge in.

Avon and Somerset Police said they made the arrests at the end of the M32 motorway, which leads into the centre of Bristol, after the protestors appeared to try to halt traffic on the road.
Mounted police joined uniformed officers to corral a group of the protestors to a roundabout under the motorway before moving in to make arrests for breach of the peace and obstruction.
The demonstration was staged by the environmental campaigners Reclaim the Streets, who had earlier held a rally in the nearby Eastville Park.

The odd thing is that M32 J1 is called J19A (presumably because it was a spur off the M4 at J19).
From the look of this map the M32 originally had (or was planned to have) two junctions, one near the top and one terminal one.
Looking at a map scan of 1966 (unfortunately with no motorway junction numbers) traffic having to come off at "J19A" would go on to small country roads as Geoff mentions, which later became the A4174 ring road - thankfully back then there were not as many cars on the roads as today.
