M41 - Danish Army Vehicles Homepage
The M41 "Walker Bulldog" Tank was a light tank designed to be air-transportable and to provide mobile firepower in combat.
The M41 was originally named "Little Bulldog" but was renamed in honour of Gen. W.W. Walker who was killed in a jeep accident in Korea in 1951.
By 1953 the M41 Bulldog had totally replaced the M24 Chaffee in the US Army, where it remained until the late 1960´s, when it was replaced by the M551Sheridan.

The M41 was the first American tank to be equipped with a bore evacuator to clear the gun tube of fumes after firing.
It was intended to be fitted with an autoloader (would have been another first) in effort to reduce the number of crew in the Turret to two men and increase the rate of fire, however, lack of funding curtailed development of the autoloader.
The M41 Tank was originally dubbed "Little BullDog", but was renamed early on in honor of US Lieutenant General Walton H. Walker after his death during the Korean War.

The M41 was also one of the first American tanks to dispense with a bow-mounted machine gun (and the extra crewman for it).
The M41 served with the U.S. until the late 1960's, but was not used by the U.S. in Vietnam (though in 1965 numbers were transferred to the South Vietnamese army).
The M41 was widely distributed, the prime recipients being Brazil (300), Thailand (200), Taiwan (675), Chile (60) and Denmark (50+).

The M41 is much the same gearbox adapted to drive a Laycock de Normanville electrically-actuated hydraulic OverDrive unit attached to the gearbox's rear and sharing its oil supply; essentially a fifth gear.
In the M41, OverDrive is selected by passing electrical current to a solenoid mounted on the OD unit itself (varying switches and wiring layouts were used).
In the M41, a similar mechanism is contained in the rear of the OverDrive unit.

The age of M41 was estimated at 190 million years (Sky Catalog 2000) and 240 million years (G. Meynet's Geneva Team).
Hodierna was the first to catalog it before 1654, and it got generally known after Flamsteed's rediscovery of February 16, 1702.

 Messier M41: NCG2287 - Double Star
M41, the Little Beehive, is an open cluster probably first discovered by Aristotle about 325BC, who saw it as a star without a tail.
Messier catalogued it in 1765, describing it as "a cluster of stars below Sirius; this cluster appears nebulous in an ordinary telescope of one foot [focal length]; it is nothing more than a cluster of small stars".
Although its magnitude would suggest a naked eye object, it is difficult to see in light pollution.

The M41 was proposed to be a big part of the "London Box" plan.
However, when one considers that the M40, to the west, and the M1 to the east; are there, and both head in more or less the same direction, then one would rightly say that it would be pure folly to even consider it.
I have never driven on the London bit of the M41, but due to its location, I presume that it is an integral part of the city's road network; and consequently totally necessary.

Because of the extreme "cool factor" of the M41-A (a lot of folks said "I want one!"), a very specialized industry was born: the manufacture of pulse rifle replicas.
The M41-A's grenade launcher uses parts from an 870; in the film, whenever anyone used the grenade launcher, they were actually firing a shotgun shell from the shotgun.

76mm Gun Tank M41 Walker Bulldog
Walker after he was killed in the Korean War, contained a pulsing relay turret and gun control system which allowed power traverse for the gunner and tank commander's override, and manual hydraulic elevation for the gunner, while the commander had no elevation control.
The M41 was equipped with an auxiliary generator powered by a small engine.
Cadillac's system took up less space than the pulsing relay system of the M41, and the extra space was utilized to increase 76mm ammunition stowage.

We'll finish the the resync to SRC641 m41 tonight and then CWS should be in a usable state again.
