The M56 Smart Gun system is a general-purpose automatic squad support weapon consisting of three major components: the operator's combat harness; the articulation arm; and the gun itself.
To prep the M56 for combat, operators must first don the combat harness, which is constructed from composite micromesh ballistic armor and is heavily padded to ease chafing at the shoulders and hips.
The gun itself is clipped and secured to the end of the arm, which is gyrostabilised and provides additional recoil dampening to keep the gun steady while the operator is walking or running.

Gun owners can, of course, commit suicide using their own firearms, whether they are personalized or not.
Smart gun advocates commonly claim the technology could stop virtually all fatalities stemming from unintentional injuries.
While a personalized gun may be less likely to be stolen, it is highly optimistic to assume that thieves will stop attempting to steal any of the millions of guns already owned by Americans on the off-chance they may come across a personalized gun.
