M60 was quickly followed by M60A1, and the major redesign was the turret.
M60A1 featured a longer, "needle-nosed" turret, which placed the 105mm gun 5" (13cm) forward of where it would be in M60's turret.
M60A1 also featured increased armor protection, improved location of the brake and accelerator pedals, hydraulic instead of mechanical linkages for those pedals, and improved seats.

The M60A1, as the name suggests, is an M60 tank chassis topped with a portable bridge assembly that many engineers in Korea refer to as a “deathtrap” due to its tremendous top-heavy configuration.
The troop vehicle was at the bottom of an incline in a curve and the M60A1, whose brakes reportedly failed, collided with the M1078 crushing the soldiers inside and coming to rest perched precariously atop the front vehicle.
Baldwin and an enlisted medic (name unknown) immediately crawled under the M60A1, which was in danger of completely collapsing, and began their efforts to stabilize the badly injured soldiers, one of whom was trapped under the tracks of the 56 ton vehicle and had had both legs amputated by the collision.

And it fact to build a replica of early M60 you need exactly this: one model of M48 and one of M60A1 (or later), to mix their parts.
