Based on the idea, first brought up by Germans during the WW2, the LAW provided individual infantrymen with lightweight, recoilless, disposable weapon, which was extremely simple to operate, and effective against armored vehicles and many types of field entrenchments and light fortifications.
Adopted by several other countries, the M72 LAW is now being offered in the `Improved LAW` versions by the Talley Defense Systems Co (USA), which offer longer effective range and better effectiveness against modern treats.
All weapons in the M72 family are of same basic design, and differ mostly in projectile and rocket engine types, as well as in safety measures.

Horsesoldier RE:Talley M72E8/M72E10 LAW Versus the Common Rifle Grenade 5/19/2006 11:03:14 AM I think the rifle grenade has generally been relegated to obsolete status by most militaries because of its lack of accuracy (indirect fire type trajectory and relatively low velocity) and severe recoil (requiring weapon to be braced on the ground to employ safely).
Maybe if a LAW had more range I would find it useful, as it is I would always prefer a couple of good, modern rifle grenades, of which there are many.
