| | MINE-BLASTER: The APOBS Breaching Weapon |
 | | In recent test scenarios of APOBS, its usefulness becomes clear: Two Marine Combat Engineers up against anti-personnel mine obstacles can put together one APOBS unit from the two 60-pound backpacks, they carry, advance to the 35 meter standoff position, set, aim and fire the rocket. |
 | | A different, and potentially safer solution, would be to re-introduce a dedicated Combat Engineer Vehicle, such as the M728 CEV, which was retired from service in the late 1990s. |
 | | Heavily armored and armed with a large caliber, low-velocity demolition gun, a 728-like vehicle could approach obstacles with relative impunity (where the most common threat would be the RPG light anti-tank weapon) and reduce the obstacle without exposing the crew. |
