The format of MADtv is a mixture of scenes shot live for a studio audience, and pre-taped short films—both place a heavy emphasis on pop culture parody.
MADtv spoofs other shows, such as the long-running game show The Price is Right, with actors playing Bob Barker and Rod Roddy, and it also takes on other celebrities, like Wayne Brady, Kenny Rogers and John Madden.
Probally some of the most famous sketches are those that involve Debra Wilson playing overexaggerated versions of Whitney Houston (portrayed as a demanding diva drug addict) and Oprah Winfrey Portrayed as a egoccentric arrogant host who turns into a evil supernatural being when angry) during her 8 season run on the show.

MADtv recurring characters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.cs.umd.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Antonia Timmens was a character played by Nicole Sullivan who talked with a lisp and seemed at least mildly retarded causing her difficulty in doing everyday activities or holding normal conversations.
She, as well as other MADtv recurring characters, has certain catchphrases such as; "Huh?!" (usually before someone is done talking), "Gaaaaawd, thats cute," "Ahhha" (a sound that imitates a 'clearing your throat sound') as well as a very nasal-sounding "Caaarl!" and "Caarl Jr." when referring to her husband and son.
Arguably MADtv's first huge hit of a character, the Vancome Lady, or Kathy Wojonowski (real name), is a self-absorbed, cynical, bigoted woman with heavy eyeshadow played by actress and comedienne Nicole Sullivan (though her original appearance did not include the eyeshadow or gaudy hair or clothes).

Following the release of MadTV's complete first season, this generous three-hour single-disc collection of sketches, spoofs, and parodies from the long-running series' three most recent seasons seems a little slapdash.
Also included is one of MadTV's most epic movie parodies, the "Lords of the Bling: The Two Ta-Tas" as well as "The Honeymooners 2003," still in fl and white, but with much coarser language and a terror alert.
