	Mass air meter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The MAF meter is placed between the air filter (which must be of the paper type to avoid any fluids reaching the wire) and throttle body on most vehicles so it can measure the air flowing into the engine.
		MAF meters supply the ECU with a voltage from 0 to 5 volts that represents a measured airflow through the meter.
		The output of the MAF transfer function is used to calculate two very important components of internal combustion engines: the air-fuel ratio (AFR) and the degrees of spark advance.

	Understanding the MAF
		The MAF transfer function not only tells the computer how much air is coming into the motor, but the function is used to calculate load using other inputs which profiles spark and fuel.
		This is why when a MAF transfer function, the data stored in the computer about the sensor, is derived for one vehicle it may not be identical to the transfer function for a similar vehicle with the same exact sensor.
		To modify the MAF sensor is in all practicality a bad move without telling the computer that the flow has increased via the transfer function table.

		It must accept the reading, and since the PCM uses the MAF to determine airflow for fueling, idle (with the IACV), the torque converter clutch and gear scheduling (see EECV) it is not surprising that the gearbox begins to produce errors.
		At 2397 rpm th MAF is reading 1.366 lb/min and returning the revs to idle, at 872 rpm the MAF is reading 0.413 which is about as low a reading as it has given so far.
		The MAF is a short tube with a cross member, one end of which has a small tube containing the two wires which are the sensors giving the reading.

		From the intake side of the MAF meter, I used the stock 5.0L MAF intake hose, and mated it to a short piece of the stock 2.9L intake hose (cut the stock hose off about 5" from the airbox and mated the two hoses together, sealing with a large hose clamp.
		MAF RTN (Signal Ground) (Brown): the end of the wire has a terminal on it, which must be inserted into location 15 of the 60-pin connector.
		MAF (signal), (Blue wire): the end of the wire has a terminal, which must be inserted, into location 14.
