The Ghost in the Shell property will undergo a major revival in 2004 thanks in part to a new Ghost in the Shell feature film (see "Major Anime Movie Release Dates Revealed"), and the debut of the Stand Alone Complex TV anime series on Adult Swim in July.
Three of the series announced are recent anime productions: Witch Hunter Robin, which debuts in February, Wolf's Rain, currently scheduled for April, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, now slated for July.
Often bloody and melodramatic Wolf's Rain is a very different sort of anime in part because the principal characters are wolves and display canine rather than human emotions.

 What Is Anime?
For instance, the death of major characters is common in anime, as are complex relationships between characters.
Anime is distinct from American cartoons in their depth of characterization and plot (among other things).
The most distinctive quality of anime is the subject manner: much of anime deals with "real-life" topics that American cartoons wouldn't touch with a 30-foot pole.

Reign the Conqueror - DVD film: Totaltiorden.dk
Reign also has some major flaws in the art&animation, being that it would seem that corners were cut during battle scenes(they have a habit of using the same cavalry charging scene every time) and some times the characters are drawn poorly.
The character designs are not standard in anime, being that there is no big eyes, huge heads, shiny hair or little tear drops.
This anime takes the life of alexander the great, but gives it a mecha(for non-anime fans mecha = big robots)/shounen(for non anime fans-anime for boys)/scifi touch, and spins it with drama along with some good battle scenes.

Anime North, however was the result of discussions between members from Utarpa, the University of Toronto’s Japanese Animation Club, and other anime enthusiasts about the idea of an event dedicated entirely to anime.
Plans for Anime North 2001 might even include a move to a yet larger location, depending, of course, on the turnout to this year’s convention.
Similarly, anime bears little resemblance to the cartoons that are considered to be ‘only for kids.’ Instead, anime is simply another medium used to convey ideas, enjoyed by young and old alike.

Overall, Yukikaze is as serious as a major accident; there is not even the slightest glint of humour throughout.
The characters, especially Rei and his best friend/commanding officer Cmdr. Bukhar are sombre and quiet, leaving the series operating at quite a slow pace, and while leaving the relationships between them is mostly unspoken and reliant on the imagery of their surroundings, the focus is definitely on the strange relationship between pilot and plane.
On a seeming routine reconnaissance run, Yukikaze designates what seems to be a friendly aircraft as an enemy and Lt. Fukai shoots it down.
