Although MBS Airport was never needed as an alternative airfield base, it was used as a Prisoner of War Camp, housing thousands of Hitler's troops.
On June 1, 1946, the Airport Commission resumed full responsibility of MBS on behalf of the three owning communities with all of its federally financed improvements, and the Airport was opened to commercial aircraft.
Throughout the years the MBS Airport Commission continues to be "bent on progress," as major capital improvements are made to accommodate the traveling community.
