Bus stops are usually marked by a sign of some sort which is on the eye level of the bus driver (not the pedestrian!).
Furthermore, in Massachusetts, the MBTA is required to make bus stops within one block of senior housing and facilities for the disabled, such as the Carroll School for the Blind in Newton.
MBTA busses are only held to the departure time for the first stop on the route, which means that a bus may pass intermediate stops listed on the schedule before the scheduled time.

Emil Sit » MBTA Bus Idiocy
The MBTA in Boston has been in the process of upgrading the entire T infrastructure to support automated fare collection, in the form of Charlie Tickets.
Bus drivers have noticed that this rapidly becomes ridiculous and have begun simply waving through monthly pass holders without requiring that the pass be read by the machine.
This is exacerbated by the second problem: the steps in the middle of the bus act as a major disincentive to go to the standing/seating area in the elevated rear third of the bus.

 G.O.A.T. - MBTA Absurdity
If all bus stops on a long street bear the name of that street, it is useless to the passenger needing to know where to get off the bus.
It's difficult to tell where to stand for the proper bus, since the signs are not only poorly lit, but are located in exactly the wrong place: on the bus-side of the row of columns, rather than the passenger-side, to the left of the yellow safety line.
Obviously, the MBTA can't be held responsible for that.
