Santa Monica, California, June 13, 2002 - MCA Records and Ministry of Sound have signed an exclusive, two-tiered North American licensing agreement, it was jointly announced today by MCA Records President Jay Boberg, MCA Records Sr.
Under the terms of the agreement, MCA Records is the exclusive North American licensee for all Ministry of Sound compilations, launching a new joint venture compilation imprint, designed to marry the labels’ respective hit dance repertoires.
Our two-tiered deal with MCA allows us to do exactly that, and the combination of our A&R focus with their marketing and distribution power should provide an alternative for breaking acts in the world’s toughest market.

MCA's and PolyGram's publishing companies are expected to merge within the month, which could mean additional layoffs and roster cuts.
MCA has already begun its cost cutting: It ended its lease on the highly visible billboard at the West End-Broadway split, and it won't have a presence at this year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

You must have a professional examine your songs, decide which songs are commercial and have a chance to get cut and then use their contacts to get to the people who make the decisions about which songs are going to get cut on their artists.

Tony Brown (former president of MCA Records/Nashville) and Tim DuBois (former president of Arista Records/Nashville) started the new company on January 2, 2002, to fulfill a vision they've both had for some time.
The new label is a joint venture with Universal Records in New York, but Brown and DuBois have autonomy to sign artists.
Brown — who is largely credited with the early '90s resurgence in country music, producing hit records for Vince Gill, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood and Wynonna Judd, among many others — said he was open to continuing to produce those MCA acts.
