The Metro Cammell Weymann (MCW) Metrobus first entered the Hong Kong bus market in 1978 when China Motor Bus with the 12 9.7 metre MCW Metrobuses.
Engines for the MCW Metrobuses were either Gardner 6 Cylinder engines or Cummins LT10/LTA10's with Voith 3 speed Votih D851 or 4 speed Voith D864G transmissions.

They were the very last buses built by MCW before its closure.

The vehicle chosen is a 1985 MCW metrobus mk1, these seem to be popular for conversion as project buses probably due to their simple body construction and the fact that they are just past the age where they are no longer wanted for passenger service use.
Here we are going to document our journey.
The internet also seems to lack technical information on the metrobus despite thousands being made so we hope we can collect some and display that here too.

In terms of MCW Metrobuses of the 220 purchased, 190 were the conventional Mark 1 vehicles being MCW Metrobuses, 5001-5190, plus 30 Metrobus chassis bodied by Northern Counties 5201-5210 with Cummins engine and 5301-5320 with Gardner engines.
21st Metrobus chassis also represents the earlier bodywork on the Metrobus that was exhibited on 5001-5030 that had different front grilles comprising narrow slats protruding onto the corner panels, small rectangular fog lights and indicators which curved round the front and sides of the bus.
They currently operate 5003 and we are in touch with them with the view that hopefully, when this bus becomes surplus to their requirements, it will also become the donor of spare parts to allow us to return 5001 from its London conversion to its original GMT 1979 condition.

MCW delivered these vehicles to WMPTE for evaluation trials in the hope that large orders would result, which indeed they did.
Amongst the vehicles displayed was 6835, proudly exhibited on the MCW stand in traditional WMPTE cream, however a lighter shade of blue was used along with matt fl skirt panels and window surrounds.
Metrobus 6835 at an open day at Park Lane Garage, Wolverhampton, in August 1998, only a few weeks after the West Midlands Bus Preservation Society had acquired it.
