The MDMK leadership will meet in Chennai early next week to work out a strategy, in the wake of the arrest of its general secretary, Vaiko, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The MDMK is in no hurry to begin another round of agitation to force the State Government to release its leader, though it is keen on capitalising on the Vaiko arrest episode to revitalise the party.
Meanwhile, the party functionaries said that while the MDMK condemned the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, individual events should not decide the fate of the entire Tamil race.

The MDMK chief has been in Vellore jail since his arrest on July 11, 2002, for speaking in favour of the banned LTTE at a public meeting near Madurai.
Referring to his July 2002 speech that landed him in jail, the MDMK leader said his remarks should be viewed in their “totality”, for his allusion to the LTTE was one of many statements he had made at the party’s ninth anniversary celebrations.
Before the MDMK leader began speaking, the public prosecutor said he could no longer argue the case as the advocate-general himself wanted to appear in court.

COIMBATORE: MDMK treasurer and Union Minister M Kannappan on Thursday said he was "not afraid of arrest under POTA" and was "ready to face any consequences" for his recent remarks that his party would continue to support banned LTTE.
Stating that MDMK had extended only moral support to LTTE, for that matter any organisation, which was fighting for the cause of Tamils in Sri Lanka, he said his party had not given any direct support or by way of arms or funds.
