MEDEVAC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term MEDEVAC is usually applied to a vehicle, plane or helicopter used as an ambulance (sometimes called an "air ambulance").
Most patients transported by MEDEVAC are taken to a specialized hospital known as a trauma center.
Accordingly MEDEVAC aircraft are specifically modified aircraft that have lifesaving equipment on board as well as trained medical personnel as part of the crew, yet are hardly armed at all.

Medevac programs can be divided into two distinct categories of service according to the type of patient transported.
All financial and operational statistics of a medevac program are evaluated in terms of a mission, which is measured from the time of request to the point that the crew and aircraft are back in service.
Numbers of requests for medevac service and incoming phone calls should be documented, studied, and cross-referenced to actual missions flown to help establish an understanding of the forces at work in a flight program.
