		Given that MGR received a bit of a pasting from the press over the frontal treatment of the 75 V8 when it was launched in Geneva, one could be surprised by this move, but in the flesh, the new frontal treatment with the gaping grille looks very good indeed.
		MGR continues to maintain that the 45 platform has a lot to offer, and it has to be said that its Honda underpinnings are quite sophisticated, but as long as it remains with (much of) the existing style, it will be handicapped in the marketplace.
		In his press statement Rod Ramsey, MGR's Sales Operations Director referred to it as an entirely new dashboard, and at first glance it is. The chrome rimmed round air vents (looking remarkably like those from the SV) set the interior off nicely, and the new instrument nascelle is a vast improvement on the old one.

		There was no sign of the 45/25 facelifts, as MGR is keen to keep something up sleeve for the "home" show, but there was one controversial unveil, all the same...
		Rover's big announcement was the Rover variation of the 75/ZT V8, which it has to be said, did stop many observers in their tracks; and not all for the right reasons.
		MGR quickly came back with a statement that claimed that the styling had been signed off a year before the car's launch, but as Audi had been dropping hints about the new company's new look for about the same amount of time, it looked like MGR could well have dropped a minor clanger.

	V8 Conversions
		On the original chrome bumper V8 the cooler was mounted on the rad ducting panel under the offside fan motor and because of limited space a 10 row unit was used.
		The B.L. MGB GT V8 utilised a modified 4 synchro overdrive box that is identical to the 4 synchro 1800 B unit except for the ratios and the bell housing, which mates direct to the Rover block.
		The MGR V8 uses a different axle with a 3.31 ratio and limited slip however at approximately £2,000 this is not a very attractive option.

	Honda/Rover & Rover codes
		The project name for the MGB-based roadster which became the MGR V8.
		This code was assigned to Project Adder, the MGB-based roadster which became the MGR V8 (see Project Adder, above).
		This Roy Axe design was altogether bigger than the other PR-series cars, but like PR2, it had a front-mounted V8 and rear-wheel drive.

		I made a template to ensure plenty of room would be left for the engine, and an extra bit to clear the manifolds.
		The gearbox mounting is completely different style and position (further back) for the LT77 gearbox, so I used the original 4 mounting bolts at the front linking to Chassis centre cross member at the rear.
		Note: The LT77 (early Rover SD1 5 speed) or R380 (later, found on MGR V8, TVR's etc) are both suitable but you will need a Sherpa type shift linkage to get the gearlevel into a suitable position.

	V8 broken down again - AND AGAIN !
		The MGR V8 to me was just a car that incorporated all these improvements in a pretty body.
		Just like the Morgan they don't handle well out of the box, you have to learn how to chuck them around, which to me is ultimately far more satisfying than a car that does all that for you.
		The Aston Martin V8 also requires improvements to the suspension to make the handling such that it can be thrown around with relative impunity and also requires a learning curve to enable you to do so.

		V8 Register member, Chris Hunt Cooke, driving his rally prepared MGB, reports the team picked up the Marque Team Trophy and Chris and his navigator David Kirkham won a bronze medal too.
		Photos of the cracks in the V8 steering rack mounts have been sent in by Brown and Gammons which show the extent of the cracks on the side of the mounts very clearly.
		As the consequences of a complete failure would be serious, members with both chrome and rubber MGBGTV8s, V8 Roadsters or GT conversions built from Factory rubber bumpered shells or RV8s need to have the mount inspected as a matter of urgency.

		Ron Armstrong, the V8 Register’s RV8 representative, has taken time out from auditioning for the V8 Full Monty video (or from the state of him it could be Rocky Horror’s Riff Raff), to look at the story of his favourite car and tries to assess its place in M.G. history.
