How UNIX Email Works: MH & nmh: Email for Users & Programmers
MH and xmh are fine for beginners: there are just a few basic concepts and commands to learn.
Because MH commands aren't part of a monolithic mail system, you can use them at any time; you don't have to start or quit the mail agent.
This book explains differences between MH and nmh at the place that seems the most logical to me--usually in the general introduction to a command or feature.

The MH Mailer -- A brief intro
MH is a Message Handling system originally developed at RAND, then improved and widely distributed by the University of California at Irvine.
MH is an MUA designed with the UNIX philosophy of ``create lots of small tools that do simple things well, and provide a flexible way to put them together to do things.'' This tool philosophy is very different from the application philosophy that some people have, in which just one program should do everything.
MH commands are generally issued directly from the shell; thus all the normal flexibility and power of shell features (e.g.

MH's certainly have their applications, but I have yet to hear evidence that they are cheaper per lumen than T-8's.
If you use a single 250W MH over a 70G tank, you will have a very bright spot in the middle with dimmer areas at the ends, particularly if it is mounted pendant-style.

MH Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) with Answers
The point of this is to circulate existing information, and avoid rehashing old answers.
If it has already expired and you're not reading this, you can hope that you saved the instructions to retrieve the FAQ (see "Where can I get MH") so that you can get a copy through other means.
Please do not post an answer when someone posts a frequently asked question; rather, email the relevant section of the FAQ to eliminate unnecessary traffic in this newsgroup.

By the way, MH produced significantly less burr, and was more scratch resistant during the sharpening than any other ATS-34 and 154CM blades I've ever had sharpened.
